"I am so sorry it took so long to get back to you"

date: November 1, 2009

I know, I know it took me a forever and a half to get back to you, but I explained it all on my account page. ON WITH THE LONG-AWAITED REVIEW!

I do have to say, I do like the calm that this song puts out. Very soothing spiritually, y'know, if you were a Celt. Definitely deserves to be in the "Ambient" section.

However, there was only one thing that slightly bugs me. It is way too repeditive with the constant base beat that seems to drill into your head. Now, I know I'm not one of the mot calm of all people, and I certainly don't listen to Ambient music all that often, but I think this genre was made to make people tired, not hypnotize them into a deep sleep.

Wait, I see what your game is now... GET OUTTA MY HEAD!!!

Quick, before I fall under the spell... 9 and 5... now, RUN!!!

Author's Response:

hahaha - some of the most hypnotic song have a percussive repetitiveness that makes you unable to stop listening to them ;)

and I guess I have a bit of celt in me ;)

thanks for the review! :)

Requiem of a Dream - Club Mix

"Congrats on choosing to remake a kick@$$ song!"

date: November 1, 2009

Well, I am... touched. Finally someone decides to remake THIS song, which is one of the most epic songs ever created next to "Battle without honor or humanity" by Toyomashi Hotei (... I think...) Thank you.

Now on to the review. I have to say, there's nothing really... wrong with it in any way, shape, or form. I mean, turning a great classic into something of such immense techno bass beats and synth sounds is a very hard thing to do. However, this one has flawless sound, imppecable timing with the tones, and a very heart-warming memorable feeling that the original had, while keeping the whole thing fresh and new.

Congratulations, good sir/madame, you are one of the few people on here that have managed to put together perfect song. And anyone who doesn't vote a 10 on this song obviously has no idea the sheer magnitude of perfection that this song brings forth. 10 and 5. As if it needed to be said.

(Jumpstyle] Get Hard

"Impressive combination all around."

date: March 8, 2009

Great job on the song! One of my favorite parts in the whole song is the fact that there is the combination of the guitar-like instrument (i don't really know what it is, but...) and the synth. Honestly, many people can't find a good balance between the two types of instruments in a single song, as many have tried. However, you seem to have found the balance. And I commend you on that note.

Overall, there's nothing I can really complain about, in all honesty. I mean, the whole song flows amazingly, the way that the song transfers from the synth to the other... stringed instrument is nearly flawless, and the use of fade-in's and fade-outs was masterfully designed. Also, the transition to the more upbeat form of the song is well-used, and a pleasant and unexpected transfer in the song.

One of the best things about this song is the fact that you can never really tell where the song ends and begins again. One of my other favorite aspects of the song. Refrencing to almost every other song out there, most people don't know how to properly and seamlessly loop a song. But you obviously have it down pat!

Nothing I can say to this one, besideds 10, 5, and keep up the good work.

Random Compleate

"Shoulda kept it at the original length, man!"

submission: Random Compleate
date: March 2, 2009

I commend your efforts in attempting to make a song such as this. It turned out pretty well, actually. However, as you know, I must comment on one or two things here.

The first thing I would like to bring up is the fact that the opening of the song obviously had no correlation to the song. The fact that the opening was in a totallydifferent pitch was the first noticable factor. Next, we have the fact that there was that little glitchy part in the song around 17-18 seconds into it. This shows that the "cutting to perfection" aspect of the song truely did not mean that specific section of the song.

The second thing I wish to show is the fact that the sounds you used for this song were too random and didn't sound all that great in such a short song. I do believe that, had you the original, full-length song in here, it would undoubtably sound MUCH better than it does now.

Other than that, I cannot really comment on anything else. I think it's pretty good th way it is right now, however if it was the original it would sound a heck of a lot better than it does now. Keep at it!

Author's Response:

No it wouldnt the original had a 3-4 seconds no sound time from part to part and had a few extra notes that just piss you off

Zelda MM| Clock Town

"There's good. There's awesome. Then there's this."

date: March 1, 2009

A really good job in recreating one of the most annoying songs in the whole game (simply for the fact that you ALWAYS hear it in the town. All of the time, and it get's REALLY annoying REALLY fast.) and making it great.

I commend you on the instruments that you would generally find in the town, such as the bell, fiddle, and the flute (if there were bards) and the way that you expressed the song was in an artful, tasteful, but more importantly, catchy way sent warm feelings down my spine. I really feel that there was not much that you could change about this song. But, I have to comment on ONE downside at least, and it may be a low blow, but...

I simply felt that, as one of the most annoying parts of the song was the fact that the fiddle played the same thing for the entire time in the background of the song. And it was in such a tone that it just didn't really belong in most of the song. Such as the begining, when it was in that screechingly-high tone, I could barely stand that. But it did cover up nicely with the rest of the instruments over it. My only problem is that there could have been more use in that fiddle. I mean, the same thing all the way through just kinda get's to you after hearing it about 6 times (as i just have done.)

So, a perfect score, and I really had to dig deep for that one. So, keep up the good work, and I'll leave a few 5's next time I'm around!

"...lol, some funny stuff. Oh wait, wrong song."

submission: Super Kirbo World

One of my favorite things about this song is that it sounds just... right with the song I'm playing behind it. It's the "MS- Madness Gun Sounds!" song by MortalSymphony. And at the exact time that I opened this song, it kicked off with such perfect timing, I couldn't help but write it down as a song possibility. This with random gun sounds behind it.

Anyways, getting to THIS song... I would recommend not quitting your day job. I mean, it's a good idea, but the way it was executed, as I said before in one of your other songs, was awful. Try to improve on the vocal abilities, and perhaps singing the same note at the same time. Because after a while, it just isn't funny anymore.

"ummm, I don't know about this one..."

submission: Sonic 2| Robotnik

...ummm, I think to write a song, you need not be tone deaf. Not saying that you are, but for half of the song, I was cringing. The begining section had all the wrong notes. I mean, past the fact that, even if I dodn't know the song, I'd STILL find something wrong with the sound (flat notes, or sharp notes, I don't really know right now,) I've been listening to this song since I was 5. Every day, I'd end up pulling out the game, going down to the soundtrack section, and listening to the neverending loop it would give me. And, after listening to this piece, I couldn't help but write something not entirely positive.

However, I cannot write only negative, as well. Given the fact that you actually attempted to rework this song has to have some points given out to you. And the way that you did it was well-thought out obviously, and a refreshing turn to the better. The use of the percussion was expertly done, and the way you used the strings has to be commemorated as well.

I just cannot get past the notes you used at the begining of the song (after all, a strong begining to the song hooks the person, a strong body to the song keeps them there, and a strong ending leaves them wishing for more) and this song really doesn't have any of those but a strong begining. Work on it, and I'll come back.

Donkey Kong Country (K. Rool)

"A truely amazing combination. But..."

date: February 18, 2009

I think that this song was one of my favorite songs from the game SERIES, let alone the game in particular. I love the opening, and commend you for taking it to the next level by combining 8-bit-like noises with a heavy rock theme. And I love how you led the whole thing along. I'm sure if there was a newer version, it would be a lot higher ranking than it is now. Say, somewhere along the lines of untouchable.

However, the one thing that brought it WAY down for me was the quality of the rock portion of the song. It gives the song a sort of grainy whine behind the song that makes the whole song just... I don't know, unpleasant, to listen to. Also, the song needs to be WAY longer for it to be any good. You can't make a song that epic and expect people to be cool with it playing for only 1:50. This song needs to be at LEAST 3-4 minutes to have the affect it needs to have on the listeners you WANT it to have. And one last thing. Again, bringing up the part of the time, the fade out should only be used for longer songs. In this case, you definitely want to have a definitive ending to the song, not something that makes someone notice just how short the song really is.

My personal opinion, and may I hope it get's heard. It worked the right way, I think that this song could be one of the best on Newgrounds. But you GOTTA work with it, and I think my simple suggestions would make it 10x better. Keep up the good work, man!

Author's Response:

this comes from two VERY old compilations of videogame remixes i made when i was young. I'm considering doing a third with remade versions of the prior two, but I dont have the time or inclination to do it right now though. I am however, very happy you gave such a constructive and ultimately positive review.

I'll see if I cant "work with it" and make a better version of this one atleast.

"Might as well write a review as well."

date: February 10, 2009

I have to say, good job at making the iTunes ranks! I don't think I've seen that anywhere else, save for Dan Paladin. But he doesn't really count, so...

ANYWAYS, I do love this song. No matter how hard I look, I simply cannot find anything wrong with this song. The combination of the piano and the synthlead to a wonderful sound, screaming in good harmonics. The use of the base beat was under the watchful eye of an expert. And the flow of the song is almost entirely perfect!

Well, now that I strain REALLY hard, I can find one thing. This song needs to be displayed louder and prouder, so an increase in the general volume of the song would be greatly welcomed. And also, there could be more of an influence with the piano. To me, that just seemed too toned down. I mean, it's great, but I find that if you were to increase the classical aspects of this song, it would bring forth even more fans of the song.

My humblest opinion, and I don't know much about music, but when it's for an increase in the quality in music, I think that I know a thing of two.

Keep up the good work! I hope to review more good songs from you in the future!

"Thanks for bringing this to my attention!"

date: February 7, 2009

Wow, I never really get sent stuff, so I figure I must be getting somewhere in the site! Well, let's give this a proper review, shall we?

Overall, the song gives a tone that you wouldn't suspect as being any good. I mean, the way that the song changes constantly, it seems to have a sort of spasmodic tone to it. However, as I listen to the song a few times, I get to realize that there is more to be had in this piece. I do agree that there could be a few things I would change about this song, but I do greatly enjoy what makess this song great. For one, it threatens to stray from the beaten path that songs generally keep to, and doe so in the most unusual way. Points are awarded for bravery in the making of the music! And also, I find that there is a certain flair that makes the song just a little different each time you listen to it, as you pick up on different synths or other instruments.

But, there are a few things I'd complain about. Mostly, it was in the start of the song. I think that the first part of the song, from :00 to :18, could stand to be lengthened a bit. Also, the first synth you hear gets replaced too early by th other one. My suggestion to you would be to either increase the length of time that the first synth plays, or decrease the volume of the second synth. I like the begining, but I need to LOVE it to love a song.

Maybe a few more things I would change, such as the pause separating sections of the song (I'd get rid of the one at the 1:46 mark all together. it makes the song sort of irregular to the ear.) and the general volume of some of the instruments (In the central sections, tone down the main instrument. A song is about the leading instrument as much as it is the ones that follow it!) But I won't go into much detail on those! (lol)

So, a 5 and a 9 are suitable here. Keep up the good work! And thanks for sending it to me! It's not often that I get to listen to personal requests, let alone getting mail! thanks.
